At Stepwise, our mission is to drive the energy sector’s transition towards Net Zero emissions by delivering cutting-edge emissions management solutions. Our recent collaboration with TotalEnergies highlights the power of innovation and partnership in the drilling and well construction sector.

A partnership to transform well construction emissions

For over 18 months, Stepwise has been working closely with TotalEnergies to address one of the most pressing challenges in the energy sector: reducing carbon emissions while maintaining operational efficiency. By integrating our advanced SaaS platform with TotalEnergies’ operational teams, we have successfully developed and implemented comprehensive emissions management solutions that span multiple regions and asset types, including jack-ups, semi-submersibles, and drillships.

Our partnership extends beyond technology, involving collaboration with TotalEnergies’ Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), engineers, and local task forces to establish systematic and reliable emissions tracking and reduction strategies. This combined expertise allows us to provide a unified platform for monitoring Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions in real-time, while comparing performance across operations globally.

Global Impact: A broader reach for emissions reduction

Our joint efforts have already made a measurable impact. In Namibia, for example, the Mira project served as a baseline for identifying operational improvements in well construction emissions. The results were clear: significant CO2 savings and cost reductions, setting a precedent for expanding these strategies to other TotalEnergies operations in Congo, Nigeria, and the UK.

Our video case study explores these achievements in detail, showing how we’ve worked with TotalEnergies’ teams across these regions, with plans for further expansion into Denmark, Brazil, and Angola.

Insights from TotalEnergies: A look behind the scenes

The video also features interviews with TotalEnergies’ experts, including:

  • Shashank Garg, Drilling & Wells Manager in Namibia, discussing the success of the Venus 2A project.
  • Susan Namuganyi, Drilling Engineering Manager in Nigeria, sharing her experience implementing Stepwise’s solution and how it handles historic data.
  • Benjamin Brière – Drilling & Wells Manager Nigeria, describing what TotalEnergies can do to significantly reduce its carbon emissions.
Supporting TotalEnergies’ sustainability goals

As we continue our journey with TotalEnergies, Stepwise remains instrumental in helping them achieve their sustainability objectives, including:

  • Establishing accurate baselines for emissions across global operations
  • Monitoring carbon intensity per meter drilled
  • Identifying and verifying emission reduction initiatives
  • Digitalizing emissions tracking and reporting
  • Enabling performance comparisons across rigs and vessels for better planning

At Stepwise, we are proud to be at the forefront of emission reduction in well construction, accelerating the energy sector’s path to Net Zero. We look forward to further collaboration with TotalEnergies as we continue to push the boundaries of what’s possible.
